Default Shock FA Cup finalists

Team: Sunderland
When: 1973
Opponents: Leeds
What happened: This was very much a David v Goliath-style contest between First Division stalwarts and defending FA Cup winners Leeds and unfashionable Second Division outfit Sunderland. But the Black Cats rattled Leeds from the opening whistle, weighing in with hefty tackles and hogging much of the possession. In the end, there proved to be two match winners at either end of the field. First was Sunderland goalkeeper Jimmy Mongtomery, whose double save to deny Peter Lorimer is still regarded by many as one of the greatest stops of all time. At the other end, Ian Porterfield proved the match winner with his stunning first-half volley.
Did you know? It is the only FA Cup final to be played with an orange ball
