Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today backed striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who has been charged with assault for an alleged nightclub “bottling”.

Ebanks-Blake is accused of actual bodily harm and a public order offence following a fracas at the Candy Store nightclub in Plymouth in November.

McCarthy said the court case will not affect the player, adding: “He trained yesterday afternoon and he is fine.

“I think it often works the other way – when things like this happen you want to be out there playing football.

“The best place to be is out on the pitch.”
