ROMAN Bednar is delighted he is developing the happy knack of scoring even when he is not at his best.

The on-loan hitman believes he was below-par against Burnley on Saturday judging by the high standards he has set since breaking into Albion's first XI.

But he still had enough about him to score a crucial 60th-minute winner - his 12th goal in his last 15 appearances.

And it was a victory that extended the Baggies' lead at the top of the Championship table to two points.

"It was another goal for the team," said Bednar.

"I was so pleased because a couple of my touches weren't the best.

"Someone told me the best strikers don't play well sometimes but still score goals.

"Usually when I play badly I don't score.

"I think I was average and I was happy to score.

"It was a great ball from Robbo.

"The most important thing is that we got the three points.

"We were very disappointed after the Preston game because we had chances and conceded from two set-pieces.

"Every game is difficult and even though we went one goal down on Saturday we continued playing our game and I'm so happy we got the win."

The 24-year-old hotshot has not been called up by the Czech Republic for their friendly against Poland on Wednesday.

But he has not given up hope of adding to his one international cap and still harbours ambitions of making his country's Euro 2008 squad - provided he can maintain his remarkable goalscoring form.

"I don't worry too much about my international chances," he added.

"Maybe some people don't realise how hard this league is.

"To be fair, when Milan Baros and Jan Koller are fit they obviously deserve to be first choice.

"But I still believe I'm good enough to be in the squad.

"To be honest, at the moment, I'm just glad I'm fit and playing."
