Dehumanising the opposition (other fans) and portraying them as evil or wrong makes them more opposable. Once you start to sympathise with the enemy you've lost the fight.

All fans say daft and distasteful things. Doesn't make them bad fans or bad people. I dare say I'd have said similar if it had been one of Owen's numerous injuries.
