Independiente have parted company with coach Pedro Troglio following their 2-0 defeat to San Martin San Juan at the weekend.
The loss left the Diablo Roja five points off the top of the Clausura, with a record of three wins, one draw and three defeats since the start of the campaign, and with Troglio feeling the pressure of an indifferent start, the decision was made for him to leave his position as coach.
"The decision was made by mutual agreement," read a statement issued by the club.
Troglio took over at Independiente from Jorge Luis Burruchaga in April of 2007, having previously endured a inconsistent few years in charge of Gimansia La Plata.
He guided Independiente to a 11th place finish in the remaining games of the 2007 Clausura, before taking them to a ninth placed finish in the Apertura tournament that year.
Expectations were high going into the 2008 Apertura, as the club managed to keep hold of star names like German Denis, but results have not been as expected and the end result is that Troglio has parted company with the club.
Miguel Angel Santoro will take charge on a temporary basis until the end of the Clausura campaign, with America Gallego, Daniel Passarella, Miguel Angel Russo, Enzo Trossero and Independiente playing legend Ricardo Bochini all linked with the full-time position come the summer.
