Benfica striker Gonzalo Bergessio has confirmed that his move to San Lorenzo is all but complete and that he hopes to be in contention for Friday's Clausura opener against Newell's Old Boys
Bergessio, 23, only signed for Benfica in June of 2007, but has not figured in the plans of coach José Antonio Camacho and is set for a return to Argentina just eight months after moving to Portugal.
The former Racing Club striker believes that the deal taking him to San Lorenzo is all but complete and thanked both sides for making the transfer possible.
"I have still not signed the contract but everything is decided. I am very contented because everything was done quickly and I am thankful to all involved for making sure that was the case," he told Olé.
Bergessio's signing looks likely to be the second that San Lorenzo boss Ramón DÃaz will complete in a matter of days, following the return of Andrés D'Alessandro to Argentina from Real Zaragoza and Bergessio is looking forward to meeting his new coach.
"I have much desire to arrive and get playing, although I have not yet spoken to Ramón."
The pacey striker does not yet know when he will arrive in Argentina, although he hopes to be in Diaz's plans for their Clausura opener at home to Newell's Old Boys on Friday.
"I don't yet know for certain when I will travel. If I don't arrive until Friday it will be complicated, but I feel like a Barbarian, am well physically and have also played football recently in training with Benfica."
Finally, Bergessio stated that he hopes everything will go well for him at San Lorenzo, although he knows their will be added pressure to perform with the signings they have made ahead of the season.
"There will be a lot of expectation because San Lorenzo are a good team, so we will see what happens. Hopefully, everything will go well," he concluded.
