Default Simeone: I Would Never Buy A Boca Player

River Plate coach Diego Simeone has stated that he would never consider buying a player from Boca Juniors whilst he is manager of Los Millonarios.

During an interview with television channel TyC Sports, Simeone was asked which Boca player he would purchase if River president José María Aguilar gave him the money to do so.

"I would not bring in a player from Boca," he responded and when pushed for further explanation said "because they play for Boca. This is black and white. It is a question of common sense".

The questioning continued, but Simeone refused to be drawn, stating that he was happy with the squad he had already assembled at El Monumental.

"River are so good that we do not have a necessity to watch what other teams do. We have a very competitive establishment."

Simeone's team were able to exact some revenge on Boca with a 3-2 victory over their rivals in a friendly match on Saturday, making up for the 2-0 defeat they suffered the previous week.

Despite Boca coach Carlos Ischia's claims that his side will take an advantage into the season having won 4-3 on 'aggregate' Simeone does not believe that these results can be taken with too much seriousness, as what really matters is the result when they meet their great rivals in a competitive game.

"As I said before the first meeting, these games give three or four good newspaper covers to you, but the reality begins now," he told Olé.

"Yes, I know if we had lost the second game as well as the first it would have caused greater debate, but as that did not occur, I believe that we finished even," he concluded.

No Boca player would WANT to play for River! =P

I am a Boca fan, so ner ner!

In all seriousness, it is VERY rare for any player to play for both clubs, and usually when it happens, history has shown that the player rarely settles down, and the fans of both clubs mistrust the players intentions, and very very rarely warm to them. The ideology between the two rivals clubs is like no other in the world. Having followed Argentinian football for the best part of ten years, i can honestly say that it cannot be compared to say, Manchester Utd and Arsenal, or any other duo. The fierce rivalry projects into everday life of both sets of fans.

So, bit of a pointless comment really.
