River Plate goalkeeper Juan-Pablo Carrizo has no regrets about his imminent transfer to Lazio, despite the long drawn-out problems in pushing the deal through.
The 23-year-old was due to sign for the Biancocelesti from the Argentine giants in the summer, however the move stalled after issues arose concerning the player’s Italian citizenship.
Carrizo claimed to have an Italian great grandfather, which would have allowed him to be registered as a non-EU player.
This was rejected in the summer, meaning that Lazio went into the campaign with the 43-year-old Marco Ballotta as their first choice-stopper.
Attempts were again made for Carrizo to officially complete his move in last month’s transfer window, and the player even announced that be a Lazio player by the end of January.
However all the paperwork could not be sorted out, and Carrizo will have to wait until the summer before eventually settling down in the Eternal City.
"I have no regrets about having chosen Lazio,†said the goalkeeper.
"I will have to wait a while yet, but in the end I will go to Rome. Maybe I was wrong to announce my transfer to Italy so soon.â€
Carrizo is regarded as one of South America’s best young goalkeepers.
