Amidst the first week of Copa Libertadores action, there’s a rumour spreading that a domestic result could see the first managerial casualty of 2008. Independiente aren’t involved in the Copa, but they started their Clausura campaign poorly against Lanús on Saturday, and another bad result could see Pedro Troglio’s resignation.

El Gráfico reports that should El Rojo lose to Tigre on Saturday, rumours in the corridors of the club offices suggest he’ll walk. It’s now eight matches since Independiente’s last competitive victory, and goalkeeper Fabián Assman appeared to agree with such talk on Wednesday, explaining to the press only that ‘it would be a shame, because Pedro is a good person and a good coach. We’re going to do everything possible to make sure that [his resignation] doesn’t happen.’
