Boca Juniors defender Julio César Cáceres has revealed that it was former River Plate coach Daniel Passarella that taught him the importance of vocally taking charge on the pitch when Cáceres played for Boca's bitter rivals in 2006.

Passarella - nicknamed 'El Kaiser' - was known as a strong leader on the field in his playing days and Cáceres has revealed that it was under Passarella at River Plate that he learned the importance of being vocal to his teammates during a game.

"If the team has good communication it is going to be better organised," Cáceres told Radio Del Plata.

"Passarella drilled that into me at River."

Boca demolished Argentinos Juniors 4-0 in the Clausura on Sunday, but Cáceres still feels there is some room for improvement and believes that they need to focus their attention on their Copa Libertadores opener against UA Maracaibo on Wednesday.

"We are at the start of the week where our Libertadores campaign begins and we need to concentrate fully on that. We played a good game and we are getting near the level we know this team can reach.

"The good thing is that the team knows how to finish in front of goal."

Finally, Cáceres had nothing but praise for his teammate Juan Román Riquelme, who was a central figure in the win over Argentinos.

"He is very important for the team because he creates many chances on goal for us. He is difficult to mark for defenders as he seems to find space so easily," he concluded.
