Estudiantes goalkeeper Mariano Gonzalo Andújar believes that their new coach Néstor Sensini allows the players more opportunity to express themselves than they had under previous occupant Diego Simeone.
Sensini took over in December when Simeone left for the position at River Plate and has led Estudiantes to two victories in two in the Clausura, although they did lose 1-0 to Deportivo Cuenca in their opening Copa Libertadores match.
Andújar believes that there is a clear difference in style between the two coaches, even though the output on the pitch is currently similar to the previous regime.
"They have different ways of working. Simeone is more on top of every player, while Sensini gives more freedom to the individual. It has to do with the personality of each of them and anyone could observe that," he told Olé.
There had been suggestions that Andújar had previously described Simeone's approach as being "oppressive", but he was keen to state that he was grateful for the work Simeone did at Estudiantes.
"Saying that would be to negatively judge Simeone and I am not going to say anything bad against him; on the contrary, I am very thankful to him, we were champions and I was able to return to Argentine football under him."
Estudiantes achieved their victory over Gimnasia de Jujuy at the weekend despite only being able to name six substitutes due to injury problems, but Andújar feels they have enough players capable of coming into the team and performing that it is not really an issue.
"The good thing is that we have a really good squad. We have not suffered because those that come in are of a high standard. Whenever we need to call on Lucas Wilchez or Pablo Lugüercio, for two examples, we are not going to suffer any disadvantages. The problem will be the coach's, to choose who to play."
As the interview due to a close, Andújar seemed to suggest that the team are prioritising the Copa Libertadores, although they will still make an effort to win every trophy they are entered for.
"Now we must fight for every point and in every game, but we know that the club has a great history in the Copa Libertadores. The supporters have a special relationship with that competition. I believe that we will have a clearer picture of what is possible after our run of five games in two weeks we now have coming up," he concluded.
