River Plate picked up a boosting 2-0 victory over San Lorenzo at the Monumental stadium, with goals from Radamel Falcao Garcia and Matias Abelairas. While Boca Juniors cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over San Martin with a Martin Palermo brace.
River played a very intelligent match, and dominated a San Lorenzo side who have struggled in both the Clausura Championship and the Copa Libertadores so far this season.
San Lorenzo were dealt a major blow when an injured Andres D'Alessandro had to leave the field in the 22nd minute of the first half.
His absence seemed to greatly affect Ramon Diaz's side, and five minutes later River went ahead with a strike from Colombian international Radamel Falcao Garcia. The gifted striker beat San Lorenzo goalkeeper Agustin Orion with a powerful header.
After the break it was almost all one-way traffic for the home side, although San Lorenzo looked dangerous through Gonzalo Bergessio and Nestor Silvera.
In the 53rd minute Matias Albeiras was given space in the area, and he doubled River's lead with a precise left-footed effort.
The 55,000 fans that packed the Monumental stadium were treated to River's best performance of the season so far.
River's bitter rivals Boca Juniors picked up a comfortable 2-0 victory away at San Martin de San Juan, with a brace from veteran striker Martin Palermo.
Boca proved much superior to their opponents, and made the difference through a very alert Palermo, who scored in the 4th and the 79th minute. Carlos Ischia's side are now only two points behind league leaders Estudiantes de La Plata and Velez Sarsfield.
Copa Sudamericana champions Arsenal de Sarandi edged Olimpo de Bahia Blanca 1-0, with a strike from Leonardo Biagini in the 55th minute, and continue their fine form this season.
On Saturday Velez Sarsfield cruised to an impressive 3-0 victory over Banfield in Liniers, and have now won all of their matches so far this season.
Their goals were scored by Sergio Sena (44'), Santiago Silva (49'), and Gustavo Balvorin (76').
Rosario Central picked up a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Independiente, in probably one of their best displays in the last year. They dominated their opponents, and were well worth their comfortable victory.
Colombian striker Martin Arzuaga scored both of their goals, in the 11th and 47th minute.
In La Paternal Argentinos Juniors defeated Gimnasia La Plata, with goals from Milovan Mirosevic (60') and Alvaro Pereira (86').
Tigre fell to a disappointing 2-1 home defeat against Huracan, and have been unable to continue the great form that saw them fight Lanus and Boca Juniors all the way last season.
Former Boca midfielder Andres Franzoia scored both of Huracan's goals (53' and 86' minutes), while Diego Castano scored for the team from Victoria.
While Racing Club have continued their disastrous form of this season, after a highly disappointing goalless draw against Gimnasia de Jujuy in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires.
