Boca Juniors goalkeeper Mauricio Caranta was glad to see the team take a 2-0 away victory against San MartÃn San Juan on Sunday and believes that they are improving on a game-to-game basis.
The result represented Boca's first away victory of the campaign, having drawn against Rosario Central in their Clausura opener and against Maracaibo in their first Copa Libertadores match.
Despite Boca's general dominance of the game, San MartÃn were able to create a number of goalscoring chances and because of this, Caranta was pleased with the victory and to take a clean sheet.
"They made a good effort to score past us. Points obtained in this sort of manner prove vital at the end of the season," he told Olé.
Boca did not have much time to prepare for Sunday's match having travelled to Venezuela in midweek and Caranta revealed that their coach Carlos Ischia had asked players on an individual basis if they felt they were fit enough to play.
"Carlos reunited the squad and allowed each player to decide if they should play against San MartÃn. We were individually asked if we wanted to play."
Martin Palermo was Boca's hero on Sunday, scoring both goals, and Caranta believes the veteran striker is integral to their style of play.
"Boca have a noticeable style and Martin is a big part of that. If he doesn't play we lack a point of reference up front, so we are all happy to see him performing well."
As well as Palermo, Caranta also feels that a number of other players have put a good performances so far this campaign.
"Palacio has scored twice, Roman controls our tempo and Battaglia is in excellent form. The team is well. Little by little we are improving and becoming more relaxed," he concluded.
