SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) - Sao Paulo striker Adriano was suspended for two matches by the sports tribunal of the Sao Paulo Soccer Federation on Monday for headbutting another player in a game.
On Feb. 10 Adriano was red-carded for head-buttng Santos midfielder Domingos. As a result, he was sidelined for Sunday's match in which Marilia beat Sao Paulo 3-2. The tribunal considered this game as the first in his two-match suspension.
The second one will be the game against Paulista on Thursday.
It was a relatively light punishment considering Adriano could have been banned for up to 18 months.
A starter in Brazil's 2006 World Cup squad, Adriano was acquired by Sao Paulo in December on loan from Italy's Inter Milan until June to play in the Copa Libertadores, the Brazilian league and the Sao Paulo state championship.
