I thought i'd revive the Talent Scout thread from the last site. So i've begun by writing about this guy!
A young Rio born defensive midfielder, Ramires Santos do Nascimento was bought by Cruzeiro from the Joinville youth squad for a measly $300,000, a steal considering his understanding of the game. At 20, Ramires has barely played in Serie A in Brazil, but this season could see the emerging of another great Brazilian defensive midfielder. I believe this season, barring major injuries, could be his season, and if successful, he could be in line for a move to, either a bigger South American club, no disrespect to Cruzeiro, but he has been in dazzling form this season, both in pre-season and the Copa Libertadores, where Ramires has scored some important goals in the last couple of Cruzeiro fixtures.
He was at Cruzeiro last season on loan from Joinville, and seemingly impressed enough to earn himself a 5-year-contract with the Minas Gerais based club. This is a prime example of how vast the talent in Brazil is, as Joinville are in Serie C, Brazil’s lowest professional league, and the fact that Ramires has been spotted based on his performances for a lowly club such as Joinville, just shows the talent available in Brazil.
As a defensive midfielder, Ramires scores a fair amount of goals, as demonstrated with his brace in the recent Copa Libertadores match against Cerro Porteno. He is a very calm and collected player, in regards to his finishing, highlighted by the way he scored those two goals at the Mineirao. He instinctively knows where the goal is, and is scoring more than his fair share of goals, as a defensive midfielder, which, I believe, shows the philosophy of South American football; even the players who are supposed to be holding back are banging them in from all angles.
Ramires isn’t the most powerful player, as his physique is still quite sleight, but this can obviously and easily be sorted out with a bit of hard training. He is comfortable on the ball, as most Brazilians are, and happy to get forward whenever he gets the chance.
He is barely known in Europe, and is even not that well known in Brazil, although recently, due to his excellent performances in the last couple of weeks, he has gained a lot of recognition. No doubt the scouting networks in Brazil have unearthed a real gem in Ramires, and if he continues to play this well with such ease, I don’t think it will be too long before he either moves to a bigger club in South America, maybe Sao Paulo, or whether a European team will pick him up. If this happens, I don’t think it will be a big European club, more like a UEFA Cup team, such as Atlético Madrid, or one of the high flying Greek or Russian sides.
At the moment, there doesn’t seem to have been any real movement towards Ramires from European clubs, but he will certainly be under close scrutiny this season from European scouts.
A player set for a big future, Ramires Santos do Nascimento, watch out for this one. You heard it here first!
