Wesley Lopes Beltrame has only played a handful of first team games, mainly in this season’s Sao Paulo State Championship. Still only young, aged 20, Wesley has a lot to offer the Santos side, in particular, his good ball retention skills and his pace.
He is a product of the Santos youth team, and was given his chance in the first team last year. Unlike his team mate Thiago Luis, Wesley has not been given big press coverage, either in Brazil or Europe. I’m sure European scouts would have seen him, and kept a close eye on him, but no one has, at the moment, made any move towards him.
Much like compatriot Ramires, this could be the season in which Wesley announces himself to the world. He may not get too many goals, but I’m sure he will be a good team playing, and a great creator of goals.
From what I’ve seen of him during the Sao Paulo State Championship, he seems to be a very assured player. The closest player I can compare him to would be former Santos star Robinho, as Wesley is a winger/forward, much like Robinho, and his greatest asset is beating the full back on the wing, and crossing the ball, or picking out a pass to someone in the box.
In the game I saw him in, he terrorised the opposition right back, and he was the only player on the pitch looking like he was making things happen, and he linked up well with young centre forward Alemão , setting up a couple of the young Brazilian’s goals.
Wesley is under contract at Santos until May this year, and if he performs well in the upcoming Brazilian Championship, a European club could be sneaky and get him on a free transfer. Santos will obviously not want that to happen, and will want him to stay with them above anything else, so it will be an interesting few months for the young Catanduva born player.
This guy is definitely worth a mention, and it will be interesting to see how he develops over the next few seasons, and whether a European club takes the chance on him. You heard it here first!"thumbup"
