Default Is Promotion Worth It?
Old 03-10-2008, 11:40 PM   #1 (permalink)

Apart from the £25m, is promotion really worth it to the Premiership?.

The reason i ask is look at Derby, all the excitement when they were in the Championship about were going up, were one of the best teams in the league etc. Only to be the whipping boys of the Premiership.

The same with Watford, and Sunderland when they got pumped every week. Its a dream tho.

As much as the rest of the leagues hate the Premiership, they all want to be there, but still slag it off.

I think it is to be honest i meen 25m for getting relegated is not bad plus you get to play big teams and see new grounds. I know what your saying about points though and it would be gutted thankfully when we was up we didnt to bad on points wise

Default No bad thing!

I think if clubs are realistic, as Derby were/are, and find themselves promoted 'too early', without the players and infrastructure in place to make a real fight of a promotion, then they can use the experience to better position themselves for another crack at the Championship the following season, perhaps giving vital experience to one or two younger players.

I can see someone like Derby being a 'yoyo' club for a few seasons until they find their level, either just above the relegation zone in the Premiership or a regular play-off place in the Championship. With Paul Jewell in place and already planning for next season I'm going to stick my neck out and say I fancy them to come back up, as Champions at the end of next season.

Yea of course it is! I love the premiership, even though Sunderland have had two in particular very bad seasons in it.

I must admit half the fun of it is being promoted, but it is the best league in the world in my opinion, so of course that's where you want to be!

Default From the Blue Square to League 2?

Would Burton cope with a move up to League 2? Are the facilities in place, are the players good enough, does the club have a strong enough financial footing to make improvements on and off the field? The same applies to a move from the Blue Square to League 2 as it does from the Championship to the Premiership, sometimes the move can come too soon and leave unprepared clubs in a mess. Albeit one with a comfortable safety net!

well our ground and facilities are good enuff it is a league 1 standard ground we may cope with it but we would need to get some more players in.probaly some from aldershot that are doing well if they don't go up

They're 10 points ahead of Cambridge and 16 ahead of you so it may be that if they're promoted they might come after one or two of your Blue Square players?!
