Estudiantes de La Plata picked up a heroic 2-1 victory over Danubio in Montevideo with a late winner from Enzo Perez.
Danubio began the better of the two sides, piling heavy pressure on the visitors, with the fast speed of their football.
They went ahead in the 8th minute with a well timed header from Pedro Irala from a corner kick.
The Uruguayans continued to dominate, and were in a commanding position, especially after Estudiantes were reduced to ten men, with Agustin Alayes' sending off.
Estudiantes did their best to come into the match, and looked dangerous through Juan Sebastian Veron, who was very lively in the centre of their midfield.
After the break the Argentines seemed to have changed tactics, and were a much more offensive unit.
But it seemed that Danubio had doubled their lead minutes later, but Daley Mena's legitimate effort was some how disallowed for offside.
In the 59th minute Estudiantes were awarded a penalty, and Veron made no mistake from the spot to put the Argentines level.
Danubio bursted forward in an attempt to score an equalizer, but from the run of play, Veron found Enzo Perez in the area in the 86th minute, and he fired the ball into the roof of the net.
The 8,000 Estudiantes fans that travelled to Montevideo were extremely proud of the historic triumph of their team, that puts them in a good position to advance to the next round of the competition.
