Lanus kicked off the Copa Libertadores group phase with an impressive 3-1 victory over Danubio of Uruguay, in the South of Buenos Aires.
The Argentine Apertura champions pressed straight from the kick off, and created a number of clear goal scoring opportunities to go ahead, inside the first five minutes.
In the 8th minute they finally went ahead, when Agustin Pelletieri slotted in from close range after the Danubio goalkeeper couldn't hold a powerful free kick.
But Danubio replied with the equalizer before half time with a sensational long distance free kick from Leonardo Abelenda.
After the break the Uruguayan champions piled heavy pressure on the Lanus goal, and should have been awarded two clear penalties after fouls on Cristian Bardaro inside of the area.
In the 60th minute Lautaro Acosta put Lanus in front for the second time, with an easy close-range finish after good work from Jose Sand down the left wing.
Then in the 88th minute Sand sealed the victory for Lanus, with a good finish after being put through on goal by a Lanus midfielder.
