Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard and defender John Terry could miss Sunday's Carling Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur, BBC Sport understands.

Both players were on the bench for Tuesday's clash with Olympiakos, with only 29-year-old Lampard taking to the field for the closing minutes.

"(Boss) Avram Grant would not confirm their participation," said BBC football correspondent Jonathan Legard.

"But I'm told the pair are set to be left out again."


Chelsea manager Grant had recently expressed his delight at the speed with which 27-year-old Terry had recovered from a broken foot sustained against Arsenal in December.

The Blues captain returned to play the full 90 minutes against Huddersfield in Saturday's 3-1 FA Cup fifth round victory.

Midfielder Lampard also played in Saturday's match, scoring twice to help his side ease into the quarter-finals.

I dont agree with any player of any team putting down demands and conditions and never have....a player is employed by the club not the club employed by the player.
Its no differant than you or me working for poundstreatchers or even waitros,we have been employed to do a job and unless you are a manger accept orders and just doe as you are told,unless of course you are subjected to arrangoncy and rudeness by the man in charge then its differant.

Totally agree with that. They are like a bunch of spoiled brats.

I would have no issues getting rid of him, but it's a case of finding a player to replace him with who does not have the same attitude. Not so easy.

However, sometimes massaging their giant egos is a way of getting their best performances out of them. End of the day, Grant's main job is to win and if letting Lampard spit his dummy out and giving him what he wants achieves that the I guess Grant is playing him at his own game.

If I were confronted by a player with the @rsehole, I'd make it clear that if he didn't like how I was running the team he could "censored" off for the right price, but if he intended to let his contract run down I'd tell him he could do a Bogarde and rot without a game - at all - and train on his own, without a ball, until his contract ended and see who would employ him then?
