Default Coming to England to see matches...

Hello all!

As I said in my intro I'm coming to England sometime between late August and mid-September for the sole purpose of seeing EPL and Championship matches. I'm not coming to sight-see this time so that doesn't need to factor in to the trip.

I figure I'll have to pay up on matchday to get EPL tickets so that's part of anticipated expense. I'm presuming lower levels will be much easier to get, please correct me if I'm wrong.

The big question is what part of England to stay in to maximize match viewing. I have a great interactive map that plots the location of the all the teams from EPL through League 2. It's very handy. Ultimately I could go for team density and let that make my choice for me, but I don't necessarily want to stay in London. I'd rather stay where it's less populated and where I can better get the flavor of the average fan, and the pub he or she drunks from. Similarly, if you were asking me where to do that in the US I wouldn't send you to New York city.

Pretty much every region is available to me, so please bring it on. Thanks.

i suppose idgo for the North West more so around the manchester area as its packed with all the premiership teams united, city, wigan, bolton, blackburn then part of the north west liverpool, everton and so on, the only places youd have a problem getting tickets for would be united, liverpool and everton all of the others throughout the leagues would be easy to get a ticket for.

Then in the championship, burnley, blackpool and preston and not too much of a journey to get to the Yorkshire teams, all of these paces are nice enough, id say burnley possibl not a good place to go into a pub, easy acess for tickets and whatever, decent price aswell.

League 1 youve got crewe, oldham and again the yorkshire clubs like leeds not too far.

League 2 Bury, accrington, rochdale, morcombe, macclesfield, chester, stockport and Yorkshire teams again not too far

Great idea Rob. The concentration of teams in the area seems choice. Thanks.

Sorry to see the loss yesterday. I watched the match on Fox Soccer or Setanta, forget which. It's amazing how well a team like Portsmouth can do coming out of the Championship versus Derby's performance. Although, I think Derby sure seems to have the potential - they played ManU very well. That was a very physical match.

Funny though, the game is very different when the top four teams play each other than when they play other teams. It seems the lower the teams are in the table the more time the ball spends bouncing around the pitch.

Default London Clubs

If you were wanting to see a versitile collection of league games top to bottom,London clubs are quite reasonable,You have clubs in all divisions:
Premier League
Arsenal
Chelsea
Fulham
Tottenham
West Ham

Championship
Charlton
Crystal Palace
QPR

League One
Leyton Orient
Millwall

League Two
Barnet
Brentford
Dagenham & Redbridge

Then you have Clubs in the non-leagues...click on these for further info on the clubs..
Bromley
Fisher Athletic
Hampton & Richmond Borough
Sutton United
A.F.C. Wimbledon:Formed by fans of Wimbledon, after the former parent club moved to Milton Keynes know as MK Dons
Enfield TownFormed by digruntled fans who objected to the Boards actions at parent club Enfield.
Cray Wanderers:The oldest football club in greater london.

The best thing also is that London does not have to be your distination of staying,as all these clubs are accessable within a two hour maxium travel time by road from anywhere within the Kent and Medway areas. These areas are also quite often less populated like inner london areas.
Staying in these areas also give you games at Gillingham,Dartford,Welling,Margate and Ramsgate etc;You would also experiance the buzz of waking up on match day knowing you have the travel up the road, and meeting up with fellow fans in the stadiums surrounding pubs.

Geez I better plan on staying 3 weeks. I think the MK Dons were just on Setanta! That sounds pretty exciting Lions, thanks. I really appreciate the effort you put in to the post, ie., the links et al.

I've some studying to do. I'm using air miles to get there and trading my timeshare weeks in Grand Cayman for two weeks so my big expenses have already been accounted for.

Thanks again, Lions.

It turns out I have a number of quality choices in the Kent area, along with London. In London there's a place called the Allen House that looks very nice. It's apparently almost across the street from Kensington Palace.

Likewise in the Manchester area there are a number of nice-looking places. One place I'll have to visit is Newcastle-on-the-Tyne. Newcastle is one of my brother's favorite ales. I'll need some memorabilia from there.

As I whittle down the list I'll post the lodging candidates here for everyone's commentary and critique.

Allen house is quite nice looking i must say,but you are heading towards being within a highly populated area in the sense of loads of people and murderous traffic.

As for Toon land i'm sure our very own forum resident Magpie could direct you to some of the best places to go or drink.....and i'm sure he'll be happy to advise you too

It will be interesting to see where you decide to actually base yourself and choices of games that you attend..
