Flying the flag debate
After being involved with the debate i thought it would be a great idea to post a thread to seek all your lots thoughts on the topic..
The question was:We have countries like Sweden,Denmark and Finland members have their own countrie flags below their names,But why have England,Scotland,Wales and N.Ireland only got the Union flag instead of their individual country flags?So would it be possible to incorparate this on X11?
Well with great debate from a simple question it has evoled into an debate whether the four home nations are deemed as one country or four individual countries.Afew have stated that England,Scotland,Wales and N.Ireland are all nations of one single country so therefore should go under the one flag of the Union Jack.Others have stated that they are all countries of one nation so should be able to fly the independant flag of the countries...
my response was as that below,and the question is:
would you prefer the Union Flag or the independant flags of the countries?

I would prefer to be able to fly the flag of country of birth,which happens to be England,not Scotland,Wales or N.Ireland but England. That being said the actual flag for my country is the St.Georges cross not the Union Flag or Union Jack as its widely know as.This flag is the symbol of the British Empire which happens to unify (hense the word union) Isle of man,part of Jersey,Guernsey and fourteen other overseas territories with the collective territory of England,Scotland,Wales and N.Ireland known as the United Kingdom.Wheres not widely termed nowadays the three countries of England,Scotland and Wales are collectivley known as Great Britain being the father land of the British Empire.Hense the reason all these three places have their own identifiable flags and the only thing that prevent all three from being completely independant of one and another is that they are governed by the Monarchy which is the Queen also known as the Head of State. Therefore nationality wise i am English not British and have no needs or liking to put the union flag before my countrys flag the St.Georges Cross.When i was in the army i may of fought under the union flag but that was because you swear an oath of alligence to the sovereign( the British Empire) yet i was always recorded on army records of being that of birth in UK country of England. This is not a racial view as many would see it but one that just simply states the justifying of being abled to have independant country flags on x11,as the union flag takes away the independancies of individual countrys which was being said right at the start of this thread,before it turned into a mass disagreement on what consitutes as a country United Kingdom or singlier countries of England,Scotland,Wales and N.Ireland |
