Default Gunners check on Argentine goalkeeper

Argentine goalkeeper Willy Caballero has expressed his delight after Arsenal dispatched a scout to watch him at the weekend.

The Elche shot-stopper was in fine form as he helped his side claim a goalless draw with Real Sociedad.

Wenger's Spanish network took the chance to watch the highly-rated Caballero whilst also checking on the progress of midfield starlet Fran Merida - who is on loan at Sociedad for the rest of the season.

Caballero admits he was delighted to turn in such a good performance knowing the English giants had people watching him.

"For me it was a big surprise but perhaps it was the best match of my career," he told Radio Mitre.

"But I have not spoken with anyone, and my future remains with Elche."

Elche's directors have confirmed that they have not received any offers for Caballero - who is also being chased by Spanish sides Real Zaragoza, Real Mallorca and Deportivo La Coruna.

Default Why?

Don't see why Arsenal would want an uncapped 26 year old? Ok, Lehmann's on his way out, the uncapped Almunia isn't an Arsenal #1 (in my opinion) and Arsene's got 22 year old Lukasz Fabianski waiting in the wings with Vito Mannone. If the first two leave in the summer, which I expect, I'd imagine Wenger would want a recognised #1 not a 'keeper from a Spanish 2nd Division side, even if he did already play for Arsenal! Albeit in Argentina!!
