Default Reds pair 'could soon commit'

Liverpool pair Peter Crouch and Sami Hyypia could soon commit their futures to the club.

That is the view of Reds boss Rafa Benitez after speculation that both could leave in the summer, particularly Crouch, who has often been used as substitute and has been targeted by Manchester City and Portsmouth.

But Benitez believes the striker will soon commit to a new long-term contract, while veteran Hyypia wants to complete 10 years at Anfield and will agree a one-year extension.

"I have talked to both at different times. You never know, but I think they could be done soon," said Benitez.

"Rick Parry (chief executive) told me Peter's agent wanted to talk to him about a new contract. This was one month ago or more.

Default

I think that's great news for Hyypia, who may end up playing less over that extra year but who will have a contract to last him into his later 30's and manage his 10 years at the club.

If I were Crouch on the other hand I would want a move. He's been promised chances by Benitez and never really got them. What chances he has had haven't been great either. I think he'd do much better at a club where he can play regularly, and start instead of coming on as a sub.

Default How come they're not talking to Carson too?

It's all well and good discussing the futures of Crouch and Hyppia but what about Scot Carson? The poor bloke doesn't know if he's being sold to Villa or returning to Anfield!
