Micah Richards has signed a new contract tying him to Manchester City until 2013.
The 19-year-old is one of the hottest properties in the Premier League and had been linked with a £20 million move to Chelsea.
Having started his City career on the right side of defence, he has excelled this season as a centre-back alongside Richard Dunne.
The news comes as a major boost for the club, who travel across Manchester to face neighbours United in the derby on Sunday.
Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson said: "This is fantastic news, it shows we are building for the future by securing one of our most talented players on the longest term contract."
