Newcastle have reached an agreement with Metz regarding their defender Sebastien Bassong.

The France Under 21 international recently underwent a trial period with the Magpies, featuring in their pre-season friendly defeat at Doncaster.

A statement from Metz read: "FC Metz and Newcastle United have reached a financial agreement concerning French U21 international Sebastien Bassong. He will very soon sign a contract with the English club, who had him over for trial throughout last week."

He has made 87 appearances since making his professional bow in 2005 and has scored one goal.

what about the 2 argie defenders we have been linked with canny big name players and I think they would do well in the prem.

if im right they were coloccini and burdisso? coloccini i dont like one little bit as a defender lol, he's clumsy, not very solid, not very comfortable on the ball for an argie, cant rele defend that well, and not worth buying lol
