Default Keegan focuses on striker target

West Ham striker Dean Ashton will reportedly be at the centre of Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan's squad rebuilding plans this summer.

Keegan, who is already under pressure at St James' Park despite only taking over from Sam Allardyce last month, is scouring the market for a quality striker to take to the club at the end of the season should the Magpies survive in the Premier League.

A run of two draws and two defeats under Keegan has seen the side drop to within six points of the relegation places after failing to pick up a win since the 1-0 success at Fulham in mid-December.

Keegan's current forward line includes Michael Owen and Mark Viduka, who have both been linked with moves away in the summer, so a quality new face may be required to lead the line. And 24-year-old England international Ashton is thought to top his wanted list despite his struggle to return to form this season after recovering from a long-term ankle injury lay-off.

Ashton cost the Hammers £7.25million when he moved from Norwich in January 2006 and a similar bid might be enough to tempt his current boss Alan Curbishley into letting him go.

That's one thing he cannot do.

We were talking about his tactics v Villa last week. Didn't see the game but apparently he hadn't a clue.

I just think that whilst he can put a decent side together, when a game is going away from him, he does not have the capacity to make a substitution that will change the game.?

May be wrong but .... as you say mags, time will tell

Default Is Keegan starting to panic?

He's talking about throwing a kid his debut ......... against Man U.!
Quote:
Andy Carroll insists that he could handle the step up to Premier League football if selected on Saturday.

The young striker is yet to start a top-flight fixture for Newcastle, but with manager Kevin Keegan hinting that he may be involved against Manchester United at the weekend Carroll is hoping that his chance may finally have arrived.

The decision to leave him out of the reserves for their draw with Liverpool on Monday would also seem to point to the fact that the England Under 19 international is set to be included against Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

"I didn't play for the reserves because there's a chance I might be involved at some point on Saturday," Carroll told the Magpies' official website.

"It would be great to get that chance and I definitely feel ready, but we'll have to wait and see.

"I've said before that I'll keep working hard in training and scoring goals for the reserves and hopefully the gaffer will notice that."

Keegan has kept a close eye on Carroll's performances for the Magpies' second string of late and admits that he has been impressed by what he has seen.

"He's done very well, I like him," he said.

"He didn't play on Monday because I've got him in the first-team squad and I didn't want him to get injured.

"He gives us something different to what we've got in the forward department.

"And that's why he's involved."
Is this a penultimate throw of the dice? He's hardly what you'd call 'prolific'! http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page...~37714,00.html 7 starting & 4 sub appearances for Preston on loan, 1 goal, 1 yellow and 1 red card. Not exactly impressive is it?

Default LuaLuaLuaLua!

Quote:
Former Newcastle striker Lomana LuaLua admits he would "love" to play under current manager Kevin Keegan.

The 27-year-old, who is currently with Greek giants Olympiacos, made 88 appearances under former Magpies boss Sir Bobby Robson during his four-year stay at St James' Park.

LuaLua left for Portsmouth in 2004, initially on loan before completing a permanent switch to the south coast club later that summer in search of regular first-team football.

But the DR Congo international, who quit English football in August last year for Greece, says he has "unfinished business" on Tyneside and believes Keegan would make him a better player.

"I would love to go back to Newcastle," said LuaLua in the Daily Mirror. "I feel I have unfinished business there.

"Kevin Keegan loves to play attacking football and would get the best out of me.

"My younger brother Kazenga is there and I had a great time when I was there before."
Newcastle's strike partnership for 2008, LuaLua & LuaLua?!

Why bother focusing on summer transfer targets at the min anyways he needs to be focused on our premiership status because non of the players he wants are going to want to play in the championship i want to no what he been doing over to weeks. You see better defending in Sunday league than these greedy gits at the back what we have got.
