Aston Villa are reported to be weighing up an £8million summer swoop for Newcastle winger James Milner.

Milner was a revelation during a loan spell at Villa Park back in the 2005/6 season when then boss David O'Leary was in charge of the club, and O'Neill would like him back.

The 22-year-old winger still has three years to run on his current deal and Newcastle are likely to tell Villa the player is in the plans of Kevin Keegan and is not for sale.

That will not deter O'Neill though who will once again have a healthy budget to spend on new players in the summer. Milner is just the kind of player that O'Neill would like to bring to the club and if Newcastle were to continue their slide and drop out of the Premiership then the Irishman may get his wish.

I know it's a bit early for rumors but was on the internet and saw this one on a few sites. I think everyone knows he was signed up and set to join them in the summer of O'Neills first season at Villa but Newcastle pulled the plug at the last minute before it was completed. If they went down surely Villa would get othere man back, maybe even if they don't.

Just a rumor as I say, but a decent one and definitely someone Villa fans would look at to bring in. Would be a great place for him to continue his development alongside other English youngsters like Young, Davies, Agbonlahor, Carson...all of whom have been picked in England squads since breaking in at Villa, something I'm sure he'd love to be himself.

I'd move away from NUFC at the earliest convenience

The plus factor is that AVFC are doing well for themselves at last - and could well make even further inroads on the UEFA Champs League spots next season

Squad depth would be important if this dream is to be realised - so investing in a player like Milner would be a move in the right direction

He was quality for us when we had him on loan - a real gem of a player - only thing he lacks is pace

I heard if Toon go down then Accrington Stanley are after the rest of the squad

Lol thats abit of a cheeky comment. Newcastle have got some quality players that alot of Premiership clubs will be looking to snap up should they be relegated from the Premiership.

I reakon Milner would be another good english addition to the Villa squad as O'neil seems to favour homegrown players..
