On a serious note though, players like this just do my head in. They earn thousands a week, think they are Gods gift to football, just wish they would p**s off.

But that wont happen will it. Clubs, shareholders, Yanks, Managers job etc etc..too much to lose so we have to put up with it.

As an old ex-pro I don't begrudge the players their wages, I just wish I'd been born 25 years later!"oldboy" If the market is prepared to pay the players what they demand then so be it, if the clubs don't meet the demands the players will have to accept what is available either at their current club or elsewhere.

You're right, it wont! Totally agree with what you say Chopper, with the exception of begrudging players the wages they earn.

Markets are basically governed by two things ....Greed & Fear

The Greed of Clubs,Chairmen, Shareholders which leads to the high wages they will pay(Thanks originally to SKY) which leads to the greed of quality players knowing they hold all the aces, as the clubs Fear they will do a Bosman and walk away with another few million of petty cash in their pockets.OR am I just being cynical?

You're right to have some cynicism but you have to remember, the clubs are businesses who have to turn a profit - just look at the clubs that have gone into or are facing administration - so they're prepared to pay the going rate for top players who can bring success. The players themselves know their career is relatively short so have to go where the £ is king while they can. If that means a non-League player steps up from £500 a week to £1,000 a week in League 2, it's no different from a Championship player on, say £12-15k a week stepping up to the Premiership and getting £25-30k, is it?

As I said earlier, the top players know their value and if their agents can negotiate £100k+ a week for their clients, they're doing their jobs correctly.

If you wanted to buy a top of the range sports car and Mr. Ferrari said "that model's £150k", if you had the money, would you buy it or walk next door and buy a £70k convertible Volvo? If no-one buys the £150k car, the price will, eventually have to come down until someone does. The same with players, if someone's willing to pay you what you want, take it, but if no-one is prepared to you'll have to lower your demands. True?

Totally agree with what you say and the commercial aspect of football, and supply and demand.

But it still does not take away the obscene money paid to football players. Until supporters vote with their feet this will remain the same.

If I do not do my job I get sacked. But this is not the case in football, and until someone/or body stand up and cap players salaries, this will continue to be the norm.

As I said all is governed by Greed & Fear.

As you said in an earlier post..wish I had been born 25 years later...what a true statement to make. In your era, you were proud of the shirt you put on, and correct me if I am wrong every player in that side gave 110%.

Can that be said of todays players?

Demanding players are one of the things that irritate me most about football, especially those who demand to be played.

Their wages stay the same whether they are out playing every Saturday or not. It's a matter of wanting their own way, and stamping their feet.

I can see why some teams tolerate it though. Lampard for example thrives on getting his own way, his scoring record for the club demonstrating such. If Grant thinks giving him his own way is the best thing for the club's performances then you can see why he would put up with Lampard's little "media shows".

It's all about winning, no matter what the costs.

What makes, say, Lampard, different from the Chariman of British Gas? They're both valuable, perhaps even irreplaceable, assets who, because of their success, make money for their employers, and both earn the going rate for people in their exaulted positions.

Just to give you an indea of how much the game has changed, I was offered Â£100 a week by Hibs back in '82 and Â£175 a week by Pompey, not exactly mega money was it! More's the pity!!
