Default The Art Of Tackling

In the wake of Taylors 'horror' tackle on Eduardo in the weekend, do people here believe that tackling in general is becoming worse? Do we need to teach it better in the academies? Or should we expect mis-timed challenges often in a frentically paced league such as the Premiership? What's your view on the whole issue?

To be honest we see those sort of tackles often its just a shame that Eduardo suffered a serious Injury. It's a shame his foot was planted as if it was in the air it wouldn't of done the damage it did. There are loads of rash challenges though but i suppose its always gonna be in the game

They have indeed! Remember the 'good' old days when you had to almost kill someone to have a free kick awarded? Nothing's changed except the pace of the game and there are bound to be mistimed tackles, they're a part of the game and long may they remain so, otherwise we'd be watching 'pink' football!

Exclamation

Yes I do think these tackles are getting worse, but!!!! it all depends on who you play for, as with penalties . Does anybody agree???? or is it my way of thinking????

Default It's a skill!

Tackling is no different to shooting, heading, dribbling etc. it's a skill that you need to work on constantly and from an early age. Timing, body position speed, power there are loads of facets to tackling and even some truly great players never master it! Just look at Paul Scholes!! He couldn't tackle a fish supper!

Anyone see makele's(sp) challenge on that west ham player that was just as bad as the taylor one but luckily it didn't cause much damage.

I think it's always been that way.

Just the increasingly physical nature of the game has highlighted more serious injuries which have been produced as a result.

Players are fitter, faster, stronger and while tackles may look 'horrendous' the recipients are often just as fit, fast and strong nowadays to ride them [the tackles!].
