PSV Eindhoven have already decided to let go of Jeff Farfán at the end of the season, a year before his contract expires, and plan to replace him with hugely talented Reimond Manco, as the Alianza Lima vice-president told Peruvian media.
The international forward moved to the Eredivisie champions in the summer of 2004 from Alianza for a reported two million euros fee. According to a contract clause, the Lima club will receive a 15% cut of the amount of money PSV Eindhoven will profit should they sell Farfán. Therefore, the Peruvians have been closely monitoring his situation.
“The president of PSV Eindhoven (Frits Schuitema) has told me that Jeff will be sold in June,†Carlos Franco Chipoco told Terra Perú website. “They want someone else to take his place. Actually, they want to replace him with another Peruvian.â€
Farfán out, Manco in
Franco Chipoco should know, as another Alianza player, the 17-year-old Reimond Manco, was expected in Eindhoven on Friday. “He is considered as one of South America’s greatest talents,†reads the Dutch club’s official site.
The Alianza vice-president also revealed that representatives of his club met up with PSV delegates in the Peruvian capital in December and they agreed that Manco will join the Dutch giants in the summer. The two clubs will also establish a co-operation in the field of youth training.
A genuine talent
Manco, already a full international despite his age, plays up front or as an attacking midfielder and was voted as the MVP of the 2007 South American U-17 Championship, held in Ecuador last March. He helped the Jotitas qualify for the U-17 World Cup, and then make the quarter-finals in South Korea.
Peruvian legend Teófilo Cubillas predicted last April that Manco will surpass him as a footballer. In any case the highly rated teenager made his debut with the men’s national side on Wednesday, when Peru lost 2-1 to Bolivia in a La Paz friendly. Manco, who is expected in the Netherlands along with his agent, is only traveling to check the surroundings and will not train with the Rood-Witten. He will however watch their game against Heerenveen at the “Philips†on Saturday evening.
Third-choice striker
As far as Farfán is concerned, he was PSV Eindhoven’s top scorer in each of the previous two seasons, scoring a total of 63 goals in 156 appearances. This time around though he’s moved down the pecking order, behind Danny Koevermans and Danko Lazović, who were both bought last summer with a total sum of 13.5 million euros.
Farfan should go to Man City, he'd do well there!
