Just hours after confirming their place in the group stages of the Copa Libertadores, Chilean side Audax Italiano announced the loan signing of Villarreal's midfielder-cum-forward Mathias Vidangossy.
Audax advanced to the group stage after a last minute goal from Marcelo Broli gave them a 1-0 victory over Boyacá Chicó of Colombia on Tuesday evening, seeing them go through on away goals after a 4-3 loss in the away leg.
The La Florida based club will now go into group seven in the Libertadores, alongside São Paulo of Brazil, Sportivo Luqueño of Paraguay and Atlético Nacional of Colombia.
Having secured their place in South America's premier club competition, Audax set on making improvements to their squad in time for their opener against Luqueño next Tuesday and completed the loan signing of Mathias Vidangossy on Tuesday night.
Vidangossy, 20, was released from his loan deal at Almeria on Tuesday morning and Audax moved quickly to negotiate an agreement with his parent club Villarreal for him to join until the summer.
The midfielder-cum-forward played in Chile's run to the semi-finals of the 2007 U-20 World Cup in Canada and was snapped up by Villarreal from Unión Española after the tournament. His was loaned out to Almeria, but saw his first-team opportunities limited at the Estadio del Mediterráneo, hence the cancellation of his contract on Tuesday.
Audax coach Raúl Toro was pleased to have Vidangossy on board and believes he can give the team something different in the final third of the pitch.
"It is a good option for the club. Mathias is a good player, in good physical shape, who can give a little extra in the area in front of the midfield," he told Radio Cooperativa.
