Default Adebayor to barcelona ?

WENG HAS AD ENOUGH

Togo or not to go? 21st June 2008 By Danny Fullbrook BARCELONA claim to have agreed a stunning £25m deal to buy Emmanuel Adebayor.

And as a result, Arsenal have targeted Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho.

The Gunners had told AC Milan that their top striker was not for sale. But it now looks like they have agreed to sell the Togo international for an amazing profit.

Adebayor arrived at the Gunners in January 2006 for £3m from Monaco. Arsene Wenger turned him into a genuine top-flight striker and he led the line brilliantly for Arsenal last year.

But he has been making noises about wanting to move on and now it looks like Wenger has decided to cash in and boost his transfer kitty.

Sources close to Barcelona claim the transfer can’t be announced until Arsenal sign a replacement.

But Adebayor said from Africa yesterday: “I do not want to speak about this at the moment because of Arsenal. But it is possible there will be something to say in a few days time.”

It is worrying times for the Gunners as they look like they are having to raise cash to buy and are effectively ripping their squad apart.

Mathieu Flamini has already quit the club on a free and joined AC Milan, while Aleksandr Hleb is also on his way out and has agreed terms with Barcelona.

Arsenal have agreed a £12m deal to sign Marseille’s France winger Samir Nasri but that will come from the Hleb money they will pick up.

Moutinho, 21, would be just another midfield addition for Wenger.

He is valued at around £15m and with Portugal out of Euro 2008 is able to talk about his future now.

Adebayor is keen to join Barca and link up with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry at the Nou Camp.

He will also double his wages with a £70,000-a-week deal.

Barca boss Pep Guardiola made it clear at the start of the week that he wanted a central No.9 to play alongside Henry and young striker Bolan Krkic.

Henry and Adebayor are close friends and it was the French striker who recommended Adebayor to the club’s sporting director, Txiki Beguiristain.

But there was some much needed good news for Arsenal yesterday, after left-back Gael Clichy signed a new long-term contract.

Rumours are that Barca have now tabled a £30 million bid for Ade now. I say sell him and sign David Villa. Ade faded badly at the end of last season and one good season does not make a world class player!
