New Newcastle signing in next 24 hours, says Keegan

KEVIN Keegan today revealed he is on the brink of another transfer breakthrough.

The Newcastle United manager has already signed Jonas Gutierrez, Danny Guthrie and Sebastien Bassong this summer, and he revealed to Spanish TV after this morning's training session, on the outskirts of Palma, that he hopes to recruit another player by tomorrow.

Keegan would not reveal the identity of his latest target, but it is no secret the club has been attempting to sign Deportivo La Coruna defender Fabricio Coloccini for some time now.

However, he also has other irons in the fire, and is looking to bring two or three more players in before the start of the season.

Coloccini on his way

Spanish radio is reporting that we`ve finally got our man and that Fabricio Coloccini is on his way to the UK for his medical and to finalise personal terms. The 26-year-old Argentina international will cost â‚¬12 million (about Â£9.5 million), a club-record fee for a defender.

Marcelo Lombilla, Coloccini`s agent, had threatened to report the La Liga club to Fifa over their handling of the transfer, accusing Augusto Lendoiro, the Deportivo president, of demanding more money when a settlement had already been negotiated.
