Leaving the deal on the table and only sending the paperwork with 5 minutes left before the deadline was a risky chance, and one that Portsmouth may regret, though they claim all is well.

However should the deal not be sanctioned, Portsmouth could find themselves in financial difficulty, as the transfer fee of £7million was to part fund the deal for Jermaine Defoe, which did go through smoothly.

i dont think that the deal failing will crucify pompey over Defoe,i think its more a case of making sure that City dont shone the agree deal, and complete it even if the player stays put until end of season then starts with city in summer

You'd think so, but apparently not.

Then again, you can't expect them to be bailed out everytime they lose money or need money. What has happened is simply down to bad management of the club by those involved with the transfers. Now it's down to waiting to see how badly they will come out of the situation. Hopefully, they will remain relatively unscathed, but one never knows for sure in football. Just ask any Leeds United fan

i agree sort off,but i would say it is more down to City than Pompey at fault, and the fall-out will be more for them and Sven........due to the fact that City never filed their paper work,as for Leeds any club that has Pirate Bates in charge is likely to fall to the same fate as Leeds.......but City and Pompey aren't quite that bad yet.
