CHANGE AFOOT AT CHELSKI
According to The Daily Mail, 'Roman Abramovich is planning an overhaul of the management and playing staff at Chelsea after privately conceding that he made key mistakes in the wake of Jose Mourinho's departure.'

Naturally, there are no quotes from Abramovich to give the story some weight, and there's little detail provided. 'Avram Grant is not the only member of staff under threat and it is understood that a number of key personnel have effectively been placed on trial until the end of the season,' the newspaper says vaguely.

It's unclear whether Ten Cate, who had a training ground bust-up with John Terry on the eve of last weekend's Carling Cup final in full view of Abramovich, has also been placed on trial, but the Dutchman has failed to make many friends at Stamford Bridge since his appointment and the Mail reckons 'Highly rated first-team coach Brendan Rogers is in line for a more influential role. Chelsea's stars claim he is 'outstanding'.'

TOTTENHAM EYE DUO
Tottenham assistant manager Gus Poyet has expressed an interest in Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni and defender Dani Jarque.

The former Spurs midfielder admitted the Carling Cup winners were in the hunt for reinforcements and had compiled a "long list" of potential signings.
"Kameni and Jarque are very interesting players, and any interesting player is welcome at a club like Tottenham," Poyet told Catalan radio station RAC1.

"Both are part of a long list of players that the sporting director is looking at and that the club is following with a view to reinforcing our team."

MARTINS WANTS TO STAY AT 'COOL' TOON
Newcastle might be heading towards the relegation zone but Obafemi Martins has vowed to stay at the club.

With even The Independent giving up on their claim that Martins is wanted at Arsenal, the striker has revelaed he is close to signing a new five-year deal at St James'.

"It should be sorted out in the next two weeks," he told The Sun. "I want to stay here because I love the fans and they love me.

"I can imagine playing for Newcastle for many, many years. I have settled in well, the area is cool and I'm happy."

'Cool'? Bloody freezing, more like...

HOWEVER....
Despite Oba's assurances, The Daily Mirror reckons that Kevin Keegan is planning to make a £12million move for Bafetimbi Gomis.

Who he? Well, he plays for St Etienne, is French but from Senegalese stock, and a brief bit of research reveals he has scored a not-too-bad ten goals in 24 games this season.

So now you know.

RIO TO BEGIN TALKS SOONISH
Another player who says he is close to signing a new contract is Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand.

Given the hurry-up by reports in Thursday's newspapers that he was stalling, Rio's agent Pini Zahavi has told Sky Sports News that there is a "plan to shortly begin talks between Rio Ferdinand and Manchester United".

The Sun, of course, always knows better and says that 'discussions have started on a four-year deal.'.

THEY HAVEN'T BEEN PAYING ATTENTION
Finally, word from The Daily Star. Which should tell you straight away that this is one not to be trusted 100%. Or even 10% really.

They reckon that Real Madrid - despite president Ramon Calderon saying a few days ago that they weren't interested anymore - will pay Cristiano Ronaldo a whopping £8million a year to join the Spanish champs.

Look, don't shoot the messenger, OK?

AND THE REST...
Sunderland boss Roy Keane says midfielder Liam Miller can still have a future at the club - but only if he starts to turn up for training on time...Ian Holloway has just two games to save his job as Leicester manager...Crystal Palace hope to sign Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson on loan...Southampton defender Claus Lundekvam is set to retire after being told he needs a third operation on his ankle...Wigan's hopes of letting striker Julius Aghahowa go out on loan have been blocked as he has not played enough games to gain a work permit to play in the Championship...Sheffield Wednesday are on the brink of being taken over by a Russian billionaire.
