Default Double delight for Tommy

TOMMY Smith believes that Saturday's 3-0 win is just what the Hornets need to push on from here as the home straight moves ever closer.

And having experienced a gradual slide down the table before, he is adamant that it will not happen to the current Watford side.

Smith's brace past a resolute Wolves made sure of the points after Steven Kabba had opened the scoring and while the Hemel born lad couldn't remember the last time he secured such a feat, he wasn't going to let this one go.

He said: "I can't remember the last time I scored two goals for Watford, Portsmouth at home maybe?

"It was an overdue home win in the League - we're determined not to repeat the season we had here the last time we dropped out of the Premier League under Graham Taylor.

"That year, we were the last unbeaten team in all four divisions but fell away and finished ninth - that was a real disappointment, but I think we've got too good a squad, and too good a manager, to let that happen again."

"It was great for Steve Kabba to get his first goal for the club, as you could see from his celebration. I know there was a bit of confusion over the second goal, I just stuck my leg out and it caught me and I had no time to think about it. But I'm claiming that, no one's taking that away from me."

Credit must go to new signing Leigh Bromby for his part in the first goal, his rocket of a throw set up Kabba for a near post header.

"Leigh's long throw took me by surprise when I first saw it in training and it surprised Wolves as well, but it's obviously a weapon we can use."
