ay Bothroyd today revealed the full impact of the Wolves boo boys when he said a player’s mother had walked out of Molineux in disgust at taunts at her son.

Tomorrow’s clash with Stoke is the first weekend home game since striker Bothroyd was taunted by a section of frustrated fans at the match against Crystal Palace.

He said: “One of the player’s mums – I don’t want to name names – walked out of the stadium at a recent game because she was upset with the booing, shouting and swearing.

“I think ‘Sleeves’ (Stephen Elliott) had some stick, and Karl Henry, but hearing boos from your own crowd doesn’t make you play any better, it just gets in your head.

“Obviously the punters pay their money and can say what they want, but that sort of thing isn’t good and isn’t going to help us.

“That’s why we get upset.

“You hear things, and you have to remember our families are in the stadium as well.

“It’s them you feel sorry for, because if your wife or your mum is there watching the game, it’s not good to hear.

“Some of the booing which was directed at me in particular wasn’t good.

“I’ve heard a few things and it’s the first time I’ve heard those from Wolves fans. What I heard wasn’t nice.

“I’m giving 100 per cent and I wish I hadn’t heard those things, but that’s fans.”

Bothroyd claims his confidence hasn’t been affected by the taunts, adding: “I haven’t lost confidence, but when the crowd boo the team and the manager, it doesn’t help anyone.”

He insists he was surprised by the fans’ reaction but says he’s enjoyed a good relationship with them.

“We want the fans behind us.

“I want to play for Wolves, I’m giving 100 per cent and that’s all you can do, so I was surprised to be honest,” he said.

“We thought maybe our fans are a bit fickle in that sense, but I’ve always loved the fans.

“They’ve always been good to me apart from that period and hopefully they can just get behind us as much we’re behind them by turning up for functions and other things.”

It's times like this where i am ashamed by some fans behavior. I don't care how bad they have played but do it during the game.

I understand most people are going to say we pay our money we can say we like and he gets loads of money he should get over it. Yeah he may get loads of money but being boo'd during a game is not gonna improve anything they are only gonna get worse having being affected by the boo's

people pay good money to watch this drivel, stand up and be counted bothroyd instead of hiding, as for family members, go and sit in the billy quiet or in a directors box, the players are on good monet so why not go in one
